The Lake Forest Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago

Announces Location of 2013 Showhouse & Gardens, April 27 - May 19, 2013

LAKE FOREST, IL -- January 4, 2013 -- The Lake Forest Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago announces its sponsorship of the 15th biennial Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens. Regarded as one of the top 10 showhouses in the country, this year’s home is sure to be a treasure for all to experience. The home is one of David Adler’s most famous works: an Italianate lakefront mansion built in 1916. Not only is it one of this historic architect’s most well-preserved estates, it is also famous for its magnificent gardens overlooking Lake Michigan. Proceeds from the home tour will benefit the Angel Harvey Infant Welfare Society of Chicago Community Health Center, located in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.

The prolific early 20th-century architect David Adler was responsible for many grand estates, but perhaps none as well-executed as the Lake Forest home that will be transformed by the Midwest’s leading interior and landscape designers in Spring 2013. Built in 1916 for Charles and Frances Pike, the six-bedroom, 15,000-square foot villa features a striking, intricately paved courtyard entry, spacious entertaining rooms, stately ivy and expansive gardens originally designed by Ralph Rodney Root.

To date, a diverse group of leading landscape and interior designers, including Bravo’s “Top Design” winner Matt Lorenz, Michael del Piero, Summer Thornton, Julia Edelman and Susan Fredman, have signed on to update the historic estate with their chicest design ideas.  Additionally, celebrity designers, including HGTV’s Monica Pedersen, will speak at special events as part of the Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens’ programming. A comprehensive list of participants and events will be released in early 2013.

Tours will be offered Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Tickets will be available online for $35 per person and at the door for $40 per person.  Shuttle information and other details will be available at www.lakeforestshowhouse.com.

Founded in 1911 with a mission to provide fresh milk in response to high infant mortality rates, Infant Welfare Society (IWS) of Chicago now provides an array of services to women and children of Chicago’s working poor through its Logan Square clinic.  Medical services include pediatric medicine, dentistry and optometry, child and adolescent mental health counseling, early child development assessment and literacy support.  For women, the agency offers prenatal family planning, preventative care and management of chronic diseases.  The Auxiliary of the Infant Welfare Society celebrates its 100th year of supporting the mission of IWS in 2013.  Through fundraisers like the Lake Forest Showhouse and Gardens and other events, the Auxiliary has donated over $30 million to IWS since its inception. Widely recognized as one of the top showhouses in the country, The Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens has raised more than $2.75 million to date.
